Staff Bank
Lancashire Teaching NHS Foundation Trust
Medacs Healthcare have worked in partnership with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals for over 20 years, delivering on-site managed services.
In line with NHSI directives, the Trust needed to establish a new medical staff bank by April 2018 and was keen to participate in the Department of Health’s new Flexible Bank Pilot programme.
We worked in partnership with the Trust to secure their participation in the DHSC scheme and rapidly launched a new medical Staff Bank for the Trust in less than 8 weeks.
A dedicated onsite bank team was built to implement new technology and processes, including a new mobile-app based booking system, so doctors could easily view and book shifts and submit timesheets.
Over 900 workers were enrolled on the bank in the first year, with 100% engaged and actively working. 44% cover multiple specialties, maximising resource utilisation. Fill rates remain consistently above 95% and the bank has resulted in a 20% reduction in agency spend.
Fill rates on the Staff Bank at Lancashire were much higher compared to all other participants in the DHSC pilot and the project was a finalist in two HSJ awards in 2020; Workforce Innovation and Best NHS Consultancy Partnership.
“Medacs Healthcare has been proactive, responsive and really supportive in terms of setting up the whole service… we’ve just got a really good, open, honest relationship”.
